Some local (Missouri) homeowners may find it harder to keep their heads above water now that lenders have notified many that they are required to purchase flood insurance.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) released new floodplain maps in October that now include hundreds of new structures in the county in its 100-year floodplain that previously were not in a floodway. (More)
Spurred by the Jurricane Katrina disaster adn flush with funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been peforming what they call “periodic inspections” of levess across the United States. So far, according to the Corps’ levee safety program manager Jamie McVicker, 60 percent of the country’s levees have been inspected and only 1 percent have been judged to be Acceptable .
